HOOP – Urban Circular Bioeconomy Hub

The HOOP, Urban Circular Bioeconomy Hub, is a European initiative funded by the Horizon 2020 Programme with a consortium of 23 partners from 10 European countries.

HOOP aims to empower, through technical assistance, eight cities and regions by equipping them with the administrative, technical, economic, financial, and legal knowledge necessary to promote investments for obtaining safe, sustainable, and bio-based products from wastewater and municipal solid waste.

RdA Climate Solutions is responsible for the assessment and definition of innovative business models and financing programs as well as the development of specific due diligence tools for circular economy projects.

Among the activities promoted by RdA Climate Solutions, the HOOP Circular Investors Board was created, bringing together some of the main investors in sustainable finance in Europe to discuss relevant topics for financing circular economy projects. This group, which includes the European Investment Bank, among others, meets twice a year under the coordination of our General Manager, Jorge Rodrigues de Almeida, as Chairperson of the HOOP Circular Investors Board.

European Union islands leading the energy transition

Due to their geographical, climatic, and socioeconomic characteristics, islands face specific challenges concerning energy production and consumption. In certain archipelagos or islands, being isolated systems, energy production is expensive and heavily dependent on fossil fuels. In this regard, the European Commission's Clean energy for EU islands initiative aims to transform these challenges into opportunities, with the goal of making Europe's island communities leaders in innovation in the energy transition, as well as supporting islands in producing their own energy from renewable sources.
